Assembly

Turntable assembled before any weathering. Painted a steel color with the tracks unpainted to avoid wear issues from cars. Instructions said not to glue down the track and to use only the supplied screws, but track was warped so bad from the factory that the guide opening was closed up in certain places. Also, I plan to fill the track with lubricant so the base will need to be made liquid tight.

Closeup of spring drive under the track. The sring runs the full length of the track and is turned by a gear on the motor. A pin on the car sits in the spring and propels the car along the track as the spring is turned by the motor. The spring was a little short to make it all the way around the track so I stretched the string a little until it made it all the way around.

The cars built and painted. Cars include two train engines, a car, a boat, and a fire engine. These cars are really tiny. Too small even for Preiser people. I had to cut the legs off and file the body thinner to get them to fit.

The instructions did not show the whistle, smoke stack or headlight on the train. But they were on the sprues, so I added them.

The pin on the car is too short to make good contact with the spring. I superglued a lengh of wire (actually the lead off of a resistor) to the bottom of the car for a test.

This is the backdrop and two side wings that come with the kit. Thinking about making my own rectangular backdrop and artwork.

This is a closeup of the gear system used by Faller. This system does not work very well to propel the cars. Since the spring turns, it catches inside the track with makes the cars jerk instead of moving smoothly.

I cut a big hole in the side of the track and spring support.

The little piece of grey plastic was glued in the old track area to prevent the spring from catching in this area. Also, epoxy filled in the motor area.

I get these micro gear motors from Ebay. They are about 1/2 the size of a normal Faller motor, have metal grears, and are DC voltage which allows you to vary the speed using PWM or other methods.

A piece of wood was epoxied to the ride base to give the motor support structure.

The motor cover completed.

The control booth with sign completed and lit with an LED.

Created a box of plastic and epoxy around the motor to protect the gears.

A cushion of foam for a motor mount.

Abother attempt I made at a pin. This test used a double pin made of brass. With a single pin, sometimes the back of the vehicle would leave the track.

Another attempt at a double wire using resistor wires.
